The number of public sector bodies with policies in place for dealing with sensitive data has almost doubled since 2009, according to a new survey from security specialist Becrypt.

The research shows that 92 per cent of public sector organisations in the UK now have such policies, up from 50 per cent in 2009.
Nine out of 10 councils are now using secure technologies like VPN, port control and strong passwords, while just over eight out of 10 use encryption to protect their data.
However, 23 per cent of bodies questioned claimed to have no security worries.
The survey also found that home working had increased in 85 per cent of public sector organisations.
Marc Hocking, chief technology officer at Becrypt, said, "As local authorities look at all options to save money while maintaining front-line services, secure remote working ticks a lot of boxes. Staff prefer it because it enables them to manage a better work/life balance, time and resources are saved, and services are maintained."
