Indonesia’s KPK impressed by MACC

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC)’s learning model at its training academy has made a positive impression on its neighbouring counterpart – the Komisi Pembanterasan Korupsi (KPK) of Indonesia.

KPK Training and Education Head Firman Yudiansyah said this after participating in a familiarisation course at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Academy (MACA).

The MACC began its operation officially on January 1, 2009, replacing the Anti-Corruption Agency (ACA) Malaysia and leads efforts in fighting graft under the Corruption NKRA of the GTP.

The MACC enhances the competency and professionalism of the Commission’s officers by providing them with field knowledge to carry out investigations, prosecution, intelligence gathering and corruption prevention.

Firman said he was impressed with MACC’s professional experience in dealing with corruption, an experience KPK intend to emulate in Indonesia.

He also said while KPK has visited anti-corruption agencies in other countries such as South Korea, Austria and Hong Kong, it has found MACC to be the most experienced of the lot in terms of prevention combating corruption.

Firman also said there were many similarities between the MACC and KPK that would be beneficial in integrating the former’s practices such as investigation methods and educating the public on corruption.
