e-Government Technical Standards

The Enterprise Design Authority is the custodian of e-Government technical standards within the Northern Ireland Public Sector. e-Government technical standards are the policies and frameworks that facilitate interoperability between systems in the public sector.

Interoperability is the ability for disparate technologies and systems to communicate and work together. This is crucial within the public sector, given that ICT is a key enabler in the drive by Government to improve its services and operate in a more efficient and cost-effective manner.

Interoperability within the Northern Ireland Public Sector is being achieved through implementation of standards from the e-Government Interoperability Framework (e-GIF), and other local standards which have been derived from the e-GIF standards. The Cabinet Office are responsible for the development and maintenance of the e-GIF. For further information on all standards within e-GIF
