Examples of Belgian e-government applications include the Federal Portal, which is comprised of 20 different web sites and more than 50,000 web pages; e-Birth, the online declaration of a newborn; and Police-on-Web, where citizens can declare petty crime or report when they’ll be out of town so police can patrol their neighborhood.
The first application that went live with Oracle WebLogic Server, Oracle SOA Suite 11g and the Oracle Database was developed in less than two months and was fully operational in approximately 10 weeks. In addition, new FSB modules are reusable for other Belgian e-government applications, saving both time and taxpayer dollars.
Fedict is leveraging the standards-based infrastructure and comprehensive connectivity of Oracle SOA Suite 11g to build a service-oriented architecture that integrates its e-government applications and provides a flexible platform that enables the rapid introduction of new online services.
Fedict chose Oracle SOA Suite 11g to provide the FSB platform’s reliability, ease of use and ability to manage large volumes of data, including more than 1 million messages per month.
Oracle WebLogic Server enables Fedict to easily add more nodes to its cluster and reduces installation time of its Federal Portal, accelerating time-to-market from five days to approximately four hours.
By managing more than 60,000 authentications per day for the Belgian federal, regional and local governments, Oracle WebLogic Server is also critical for the identity and access management solution.
By the end of 2010, Fedict expected to achieve 99.995 percent systems availability, a 10x improvement over the previous solution, gained from Oracle WebLogic Suite.
